After having my son 6 years in public and charter schools with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in speech and then homeschooling for 2 years, I found Heartland Academy to be the place that took Noam's ability and willingness to learn to new heights I never thought was possible in such a short time. His desire to want to do his work and advance is amazing to see. He's been held back twice and was never really motivated to learn. This school year has made such a huge difference. There's nothing better than seeing your child willingly engaged and focused on advancing in his studies. Thank you Heartland!!!
Being part of Heartland Academy has been a blessing for our family. The lessons learned at school have trickled into our family life and have changed the way we handle challenges at home. It's truly a learner driven school which has been great for my son. Within the first few months of the school year, he told me how he actually enjoys learning again and expressed how great it felt every time he overcame learning challenges on his own.
I'm so thankful our family found Heartland! After trying both public school and homeschool, this model of education was exactly what my kids needed! We love the whole-person growth emphasis at Heartland and I've loved seeing my kids not only having FUN as they learn, but also starting to take ownership of their education in a way they never have before. As a parent, sometimes this means letting go and allowing them to fail, but it's been awesome to watch them then go deep and find their own inner motivation and stretch beyond their limits. I've especially seen my (generally shy) younger daughter come out of her shell and show leadership and courage as the community at Heartland has made it a safe place to make mistakes, grow, and flourish. Thankful for this school!
Heartland has been so good for our son this year. We were looking for a school that prioritized social and emotional intelligence and we found that in the Acton education. Concepts like growth mindset, intrinsic motivation, intentionality, integrity, accountability and forgiveness are the foundations of Heartland. These concepts take years of experience to develop into your core persona. Each student is on a Hero's journey that emphasis these concepts and more. This is what I want for my child's education, for them to take ownership over their own learning and motivation. His confidence has grown and he looks forward to attending. It the perfect community support needed for families that have been homeschooling or families that are looking for that better option compared to what is offered in most public schools.
Heartland Academy is my dream come true for education. Here, my children have finally a place where flourishing is commonplace, and where growth is inherent. With Heartland, I am abundantly confident in my children's ability to adapt to our ever-changing world and to offer a new type of leadership in the emerging world.
I have 3 kids in Heartland Academy, and I am very happy with what they are experiencing and learning. The Acton learning model they use is, in my opinion, the way of the future. The students are expected to take full ownership over their education. Making mistakes and failing is encouraged, because it means they are trying things that are new and uncomfortable. They learn conflict resolution skills, and that life is more about being fully engaged than just learning information and passing tests. The world is changing at a very rapid pace, and innovative schools like Heartland are primed to prepare students to be adaptive and successful in the society they will be entering in a decade or so. I would definitely encourage all parents to look at the options that are out there. We've looked at many, and for us, Heartland has been a great fit for our kids and well worth it.
Heartland Academy Denver is a non-profit hybrid independent school that operates in person Tuesday through Thursday. Core academic work is accomplished from home on Monday and Friday, allowing families flexibility and time for children to explore their interests and passions.
